A window schedule is a clear list of the openings in your project. It reduces ambiguity between the drawing, quotation, manufacture and installation. You can begin with a simple table; the final production dimensions should be confirmed through the agreed survey process.
Give every opening a stable reference
Use IDs such as W01 for a living-room window and D01 for a balcony door. Keep those IDs on drawings, photographs and quotations. If a design changes, mark the revision date so the team can identify the current version.
The useful fields
| Field | Example or instruction |
|---|---|
| ID and room | W01, first-floor bedroom |
| Approximate opening | Width × height with the unit clearly stated |
| Quantity | Keep distinct openings separate when conditions differ |
| Configuration | Fixed pane plus opening sash; show a sketch |
| Glass and finish | Record requirements and items awaiting confirmation |
| Accessories | Mesh, grill interfaces and handles |
| Site notes | Exposure, access, floor level and adjacent fittings |
Draw the way the opening works
Include the opening direction and moving sash positions. Add nearby furniture, taps or passage space where these could cause a conflict. For sliding doors, show the clear passage in the open position. For hinged windows, show the space needed for the leaf to move.
Decide with the supplier whether each drawing is viewed from inside or outside, and label it consistently. Ambiguous handedness can create an expensive mistake.
Separate requirements from assumptions
Write “road-facing bedroom; acoustic proposal required” rather than inventing a glass specification. Write “confirm safe cleaning access” if that has not been resolved. Clear open questions are more useful than an apparently complete schedule filled with assumptions.
The selected profile and hardware must suit the opening dimensions and exposure. Catalogue cross-section measurements should not be entered as maximum window sizes.
Freeze the agreed revision before manufacture
Have the relevant parties confirm the surveyed dimensions, opening pattern, glass, finish, mesh, hardware and installation scope. Record changes made after the quotation and their cost or programme implications. Keep the accepted revision available for the installation handover.
