uPVC Window Care Before and After the Monsoon

A practical routine for inspecting window tracks, drainage paths, seals and hardware, with clear signs that need installer attention.

Low maintenance does not mean no maintenance. A simple routine helps you notice dirt, damaged seals or operating problems before they become frustrating. Follow the care instructions supplied for your profiles, glass, finish and hardware.

Start with a gentle clean

Remove loose dust before wiping accessible surfaces. Use the cleaner recommended for the actual finish and test any unfamiliar product only as the supplier advises. Avoid scraping profile surfaces or experimenting with aggressive chemicals to remove construction marks.

Clean reachable glass safely from inside where the system permits it. Do not lean out, stand on the sill or dismantle a sash to reach an exterior surface. Ask for professional access where necessary.

Inspect tracks and drainage paths

Remove visible debris from accessible tracks. Ask your installer to identify the intended drainage openings and how they should be maintained. Do not seal these openings in an attempt to stop a leak or drill new holes without system-specific guidance.

Renovation dust, paint and cement debris deserve particular attention. Protect installed windows during later building work and ask the contractor to remove contamination using an approved method.

Check the moving parts

  • Does the sash travel smoothly without rubbing?
  • Does the handle turn normally?
  • Does the lock engage without extra force?
  • Is the visible gasket continuous and seated properly?
  • Does the mesh operate without snagging?

Use only the lubricant and adjustment procedure recommended for the hardware. A stiff handle is a reason to inspect the cause, not to apply more force.

If water appears after rain

Photograph the affected opening and the route of the water when it is safe. Note whether the window was closed and locked, the rain direction and whether there are signs of water on the surrounding wall. Share the evidence with the installer rather than assuming the frame is the only possible source.

Temporary cosmetic sealing can hide the original issue or block drainage. Arrange an assessment of the complete junction and surrounding building detail.

Keep a maintenance record

Store service reports with your opening schedule and warranty. A brief note of the opening ID, symptom and visit date helps the service team follow recurring problems. If a component is replaced, retain the updated specification.
